A red canoe for Meredith… Well, I bought Will a kayak for his birthday last year from a woman who actually lived in a house directly behind where he worked – what are the odds? Of course this was a craigslist find. It happened to be red and it was a Perception. I was nervous about the purchase because I didn’t know a thing about what makes a kayak quality, but after a few searches on the internet I was reassured that Perception was a strong brand, one that was hard to go wrong with. Regardless, the combination of the interesting woman (near carbon copy of my sister-in-law, Meg), the brand and the prettiness of the red color sold me on it. I believe I paid a little over $200. She threw in car straps, and a few other gadgets. I feel really awesome when it’s on the top of our car.
I will keep my eye out for one. My only recommendation would be to call up rental places in Austin/Big Bend and see if they are trying to offload any “elder” canoes. Question for Meredith – Must it be a canoe or could it be a kayak?
