Kitchen Demo

Here we go again! We hear by welcome all dust and rusty nails and paint cans and screw drivers and power sanders to find their new home in our kitchen.

(Before)

Here’s a picture of where we are at. Notice we have a new dishwasher – very excited about that one. We will also be putting in the gas range we purchased last Fall from Lowe’s. It was a floor model. In fact, that was Will’s parent’s house warming gift to us (thank you George and Nancy!).
(After)

Honestly, I really liked the exposed shelving up top. I’m actually considering refinsihing the doors, but only putting them back on when we sell. I know most home buyers would run in fear of exposed cabinetry, but I love it! I think there is even a small resurgence of it in decor magazines.

We’ve removed a column of cabinetry to allow for a wider doorway into the kitchen from the dining room (check out that crazy linoleum! We’re getting the couter top guys to lift it up and stain the concrete to match the rest of the house). The Monday we will be removing the counter tops and replacing them with stained concrete from ModernCrete. This week we’ll also put in the new sink (the one I had to go fetch from the Woodlands).

All I need now is to figure out what I’m going to do with the back splash…. subway tiles? I love them, but are they too dull?

More postings to come on our progress.

  2. hey lets talk about this… first off, I’ve worked with my carpenter to devise a way to use hidden european hinges on our old style doors. Its cheap, but looks WAY nicer an more modern. and for seconds, I have a TON of left over subway tile, daltile Kohler White (who knew???) tile that is for sale.
