We priced out replacing our cabinet doors and it just seemed like a cost we’d have trouble fully recouping – not a good idea right now. So I’m on a mission to breathe new life into the doors which are in very good shape and better quality than anything I could buy at a big box right now.
Last week I started taking down doors. It takes about 10-15 minutes a door because the screws have been painted over and it seems like filled with some kind of putty because they have been a nightmare to remove. I currently have 10 doors down and will focus on these 10 and then move on to the other 35… does it feel hot to you in here??
I filled in the holes last night with some “shrink resistant” putty. It didn’t take too long. I am now going to sand the putty down with a 220 grit and then go over the entire door with a 120.
I was also given TSP – some kind of intense cleaner. I can’t decide if I’m going to use it or not. It’s one of those, mask, gloves and goggles cleaners. Just not sure if our cabinets are that dirty.
And I really can’t decide if I’m going to be painting these myself or if I’m going to hire out for someone to come in with a sprayer. I’ll have to price it out.
